Starlink Roam 50GB Plan

Starlink is an Internet connection service using low-orbit satellites provided by the American company SpaceX. The orbital altitude is about 550 kilometers.

I have access to high-speed internet at both home and work, so maybe I don’t need Starlink, but I’m having fun using it and discovering new things, so I’ll continue to use it.

Two years ago when I applied for Starlink, the only plans available from Japan were residential and RV. Since then, the plan contents have been updated, the name was changed from RV (recreational vehicle) to Roam, and the contents have been improved.

Until now, I have been using Roam’s unlimited plan, which costs 11,500 yen per month.

And today, when I checked the billing screen, I found that there was a cheaper option for the Roam 50GB plan, which allows intracontinental travel. The monthly fee is 6,500 yen. The only difference between this plan and the unlimited plan is the capacity limit. Even if I use up the 50GB, I can purchase more capacity, so I don’t have to worry. For me, this plan is enough, so I’ll change the plan.

I signed up for Starlink on the 10th of the month, so billing starts on the 10th of every month. I applied for a plan change today, February 4, 2025, but my new plan will start on February 10th.
