IEICE Tokai Branch General Lecture Meeting (Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture)
The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) Tokai Branch holds a general lecture twice a year. The December 2024 general lecture was held at Winc Aichi (Aichi Prefectural Industrial and Labor Center) in Nagoya. I attended this general lecture.
Wink Aichi is located about a 5-minute walk from Nagoya Station. The floor guide says it will be open from 13:00 to 17:00, but the lecture will be held from 15:00 to 16:30, which is an hour and a half.
The theme is “Precise positioning radiowaves for GPS freely available to anybody” and the summary is as follows:
Nowadays, it is possible to determine your own location using satellite signals from systems such as the US GPS (Global Positioning System), Europe’s Galileo, Japan’s QZSS (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System), and China’s BeiDou. Radiowave reception modules for this purpose can be purchased for as little as a few thousand yen. With a slightly larger budget of around tens of thousands of yen, you can access additional frequency bands, cancel out certain errors, and improve positioning accuracy. Furthermore, it may even be possible to receive signals that significantly enhance positioning precision. The specifications for these signals are publicly available and can be used by anyone without prior application or fees. These high-precision positioning signals are practical and hold significant academic interest in fields such as physics and radio communication engineering. In this lecture, let’s explore these high-precision positioning signals together.
I recently went to Nagoya in September 2023 to attend the IEICE Society Conference. Once again, I enjoyed delicious meals.
Nagoya is a fun place for me because it is home to the aviation, space, and manufacturing industries. If I have the opportunity to visit Nagoya again, I would definitely like to visit the Gifu Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum and the Yamazaki Mazak Machine Tool Museum.
